Hydrangea macrophylla mix P23

Hydrangea macrophylla mix P23 offers a selection of bigleaf hydrangeas ideal for Irish gardens, forming rounded, deciduous shrubs with bold green foliage and showy mophead or lacecap blooms from mid to late summer. Flower colour varies by cultivar and soil pH (acid soils encourage blue tones; alkaline conditions tend towards pink), so a mix can provide a pleasing range of shades. Grow in moist but welldrained, humusrich soil in sun or light shade, with shelter from cold, drying winds; typical mature size is around 12m tall and wide. For easy care, leave the spent flowerheads on over winter to help protect developing buds, then in early spring remove only dead or weak wood and cut back to a strong pair of buds. Well suited to mixed borders and cottage-style plantings.

To help give a clear sense of scale, the stone wall shown in our photos measures approximately 265cm in height.
